Sports Media Digest- December 27, 2011

We’ve been away for a few days to enjoy the holiday with family and friends. Now back to the digest. Some of this news broke yesterday, but may still be news to you:

•The Sunday Night Football (SNF) match-up between the Bears and Packers gave NBC a rating of 12.6, the highest rated Christmas Day prime time NFL game since 1995. Locally the game registered a 45.8 rating in Milwaukee and a 29.2 mark in Chicago.
•The NFL Network (NFLN) is reporting that its slate of games in 2011 were the most watched ever for the network. NFLN averaged 6.2 million viewers for each game, up 8% over 2010.
•NFLN has announced its slate of NFL Replay games. Tonight at 8:00pm ET NFLN will replay the Giants and Jets followed by the Dolphins and Patriots at 9:30pm ET. Tomorrow NFLN will replay the 49′ers at the Seahawks at 8:00pm ET
•The lockout did not seem to quell viewers returning to watch the NBA. ESPN says the Christmas quadruple header on ABC and ESPN had some strong overnight numbers. The Bulls and Lakers led the way with a rating of 6.5, down from last season’s 7.3 mark for Heat/Lakers. The rematch between the Heat and Mavericks earned a 5.6 rating, up from the 5.3 mark from last year’s Celtics/Magic contest. The Magic and Thunder came in with a rating of 1.9, up from the 1.4 number from last year’s game between the Nuggets and Thunder. The night cap between the Clippers and Warriors rated a 2.3, up a whopping 77% over last year’s game between the Trailblazers and Warriors.
•The TNT Christmas opener between the Celtics and Knicks also did well ratings-wise, coming in at 3.4, making it the most watched Christmas NBA telecast on cable ever.
•NBA TV has begun its Fan Night on Tuesdays voting for the 2011-2012 season. NBA TV has the following games for fans to vote which will air on January 3rd: Bobcats at Cavaliers , Hawks at Bulls, Kings at Grizzlies, Trailblazers at Thunder, or Rockets at Lakers.
•The NBC Sports Group is getting set on January 2nd to air the HNL Winter Classic as well as make the transition from Versus to the NBC Sports Network. The NHL Winter Classic between the Rangers and Flyers will air on NBC at 1:00p.m. ET. Versus will become the NBC Sports Network at 4:00p.m. ET with the NHL Live post-game show from Philadelphia.
