The last time Lancaster Catholic was in the Class 2A State Title game was in 2009, when they knocked off Greensburg Central Catholic, 21-14.

This year, they faced a tough Tyrone Eagles team from District 6, who defeated Aliquippa last Saturday to reach the finals. Tyrone’s last visit in the State Finals was back in 1999, when they defeated Mount Carmel Area, 13-6.

Lancaster Catholic would earn their second state title with a 17-7 victory over Tyrone.

The game was close at halftime, with the Crusaders leading 7-0. Despite the statistics in the game, this game appeared much closer. The Crusaders held the Eagles to 40 yards of offense in the first half, 128-40. Tyrone rushed for 4 yards in the first half.

Lancaster Catholic (16-0) extended their lead to 10-0, midway through the third quarter, with a Satchel Ziffer 20 yard field goal.

A little more than two minutes later, the Eagles (14-2) put their first points on the scoreboard, with a Christian Getz 4 yard touchdown run, giving the Crusaders a 10-7 lead.

Tyrone wouldn’t score anymore. Sean Titus would catch a 15 yard touchdown pass from Andrew Dzurik, to seal Lancaster Catholic’s second state title.

Roman Clay lead the way for Lancaster Catholic, rushing 25 times for 154 and a touchdown. His touchdown came late in the first quarter, on a two yard plunge, for a 7-0 lead.

Clay’s teammate, Brian Hollister, toted the pigskin 16 times for 53 yards. He also had two catches for 12 yards.

The Crusaders out-rushed the Eagles 205-60 in the game. Lancaster Catholic earned 4.6 yards per rush – the Eagles, 2.0 yards per rush.

Crusader quarterback Andrew Dzurik tossed the ball 17 times, completing 11 of them for 121 yards but had two interceptions, which were back-to-back.

His counterpart, Steven Franco, was 8 for 23, for 101 yards, along with two interceptions.

Tyrone running back Christian Getz would earn 88 yards on 17 carries. His backfield teammate James Dorminy would rush earn 2 yards.
