Clairton High School defeats Southern Columbia to capture PIAA Class A football title

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Clairton High School has won its third straight PIAA Class A football championship with a 35-19 triumph over Southern Columbia.

The victory at Hersheypark Stadium was the 47th straight for Clairton. That's the longest active high school football winning streak in the nation.

Clairton finished 16-0 for the second straight season. The Bears lost their season-opening game in 2009 to Laurel, but won their remaining 15 games that year.

Southern Columbia finished its season at 14-2. It had won a PIAA record five straight Class A championship games from 2002 through 2006.

The Tigers eliminated Pius X 55-25 in a quarterfinal round game on Dec. 2.
