Sports Media Weekly Podcast No. 77- Rich Eisen, NFL Network

Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites re-joins us for this week’s show.

Ken and I begin our conversation by discussing the extended NBA lockout and how TNT, ESPN, and NBA TV are making programming decisions with no NBA action through at least the end of the month.

We also discuss how Fox was saved in the ratings by having a seven game World Series. We also get into Joe Buck’s call to end game six, a call with which I have no problem but Ken does.

We look at the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup to Fox and how ESPN is now left in the dark in terms of telecasting a large international sporting event after the 2014 World Cup.

Ken and I also provide some insight into the latest round of ESPN films, specifically last night’s presentation of Unguarded. I grew up in Chris Herren’s hometown of Fall River, Massachusetts and attended Durfee High School. I vividly remember the Herren saga and how he was revered in that city during his playing days.

Our very special guest this week is Rich Eisen, host at the NFL Network. Rich is getting set to host the pregame show for the network’s Thursday Night Football telecasts which begin next week. We talk to Rich about his experiences at the network, how he tries to keep warm at the game sites, and his role as traffic cop with his analysts each week on NFL Gameday Morning.
