FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
Rob Melosky needed some help.
The Nazareth Area High School football coach had everything under control, but he wanted to lighten his burden as head coach.
Melosky wanted to find a way to give senior quarterback Dan Harding more attention.
Enter Dan Kendra.
The former Central Catholic and West Virginia University quarterback, who is a veteran assistant coach in the Lehigh Valley, is the newest addition to the Blue Eagles staff.
"I knew I needed to take a step back as quarterbacks coach," Melosky said. "As a head coach you have so many other things going on and I don’t think I did Dan Harding justice last year in terms of quarterbacks coach. I worked with him (Kendra) before when I was at Bethlehem Catholic as an assistant. If there’s one guy in the Valley that I would trust with the quarterbacks it's Dan Kendra. He’s been a great addition."
In his first full season at quarterback, Harding went 136-for-212 for 1,750 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. He had a passer rating of 159.0.
Kendra, who has been an assistant coach at Becahi, was most recently the quarterbacks coach at Phillipsburg.
"I think the fact that there’s times as a head coach I lose sight of the finer things coaching quarterbacks, now Coach Kendra can focus on the little things Danny needs to get better," Melosky said. "He’s embraced it, it’s been a nice transition. It’s nice for me because I can go around and watch more specific positions. It’s been good."
