A new shopping center anchored by a discount grocery store straddling Nazareth and Lower Nazareth Township is set to open this fall.
Construction on the 18,575-square-foot Bottom Dollar Food store began in late spring on the strip mall at the Jandy Boulevard and Route 248.
Both township supervisors and Nazareth Borough Council in 2010 gave conditional use approval.
Waivers had been approved allowing the store to build without planting additional trees/shrubs and without adding sidewalks, plans state.
The grocery store is slated to open in the fall but a specific date has not been determined, said Tenisha K. Waldo, spokeswoman for Bottom Dollar.
The strip mall also is expected to house four smaller retail tenants — spanning an additional 6,725-square-feet — who have yet to be identified. About 148 parking spaces are planned, according to township documents.
“Bottom Dollar Food has great potential in this market because we believe it is underserved in the discount grocer arena,” Waldo said. “We look for opportunities where Bottom Dollar Food can serve local communities by meeting consumers’ needs, delivering unbelievable prices on fresh produce, private brands and the national brands that matter most to customers.”
The company has 21 stores in the greater Philadelphia market, which encompasses 19 stores in Pennsylvania and two stores in New Jersey. Bottom Dollar opened a store in Wilson Borough in April and another in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, before that.
The store is known for its low prices, Waldo said, noting if customers bring in an advertisement of a product sold for a lower price at another store, Bottom Dollar will beat that price by 1 cent. Stores showcase aisles nearly twice the size of other major supermarket chains, she said.
Waldo said Bottom Dollar plans to hire about 30 to 35 employees prior to opening and applications are available on the company’s website at www.bottomdollarfood.com/careers.asp.
The store will then host a grand opening ceremony for the public, in which local public officials, community leaders and customers will join in a kick-off celebration. The company during the celebration also will donate to various local organizations in recognition of its support of the community, she said.
“Our company has a unique brand positioning in that we offer customers a unique discount shopping experience in an energetic atmosphere,” Waldo said. “We chose the orange and lime green color scheme to reflect our lighthearted brand personality traits. Our messaging is also lighthearted and candid.”
Waldo said the company often has marketing promotions at each grand opening, such as giveaways of free Bottom Dollar reusable bags filled with private brand products to the first 200 customers.
