Amanda Denger of Nazareth wins Colonial Athletic Association women's heptathlon championship

Nazareth Area High School graduate Amanda Denger won the women's heptathlon this past weekend at the Colonial Athletic Association Track & Field championships at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Denger, a freshman at George Mason, compiled 4,617 points to outdistance runnerup Jacia Montgomery of Georgia State (4,530).

Denger took first in the 200 meters (25.6) and javelin (37.61 meters), second in the 100 high hurdles (14.79), 800 (2:27.82) and shot put (9.52 meters), fourth in the high jump (1.49) and eighth in the long jump (4.64).

She also entered the javelin competition and placed fourth (38.30).
