Kate Micucci leads kazooing Nazareth residents in star-spangled parade

She came, she marched, she kazooed quite a bit.

Nazareth's diminutive TV and film star, Kate Micucci, aglow in red and white stripes, a blue coat and patriotic top hat, marshaled a couple of hundred people this morning from the Nazareth Area High School through bucolic, tree-lined streets, and around Center Square to the lawn of Borough Hall.

And the lot of them blew a gale of vibrating notes about the borough as they buzzed through "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy," "God Bless America," and a handful of other patriotic ear candy.

Kazooing was but one part of Micucci's act today as she delivered a short speech about the meaning of Independence Day, handed out thanks to lots of folks, then broke out her little C.F. Martin & Co. ukulele and sprang into a ditty she wrote for Nazareth.

"Lots of churches with a steeple and so many pretty people," Micucci sang, " ... if you need cheese just call Calandra's; it's the cheeses of Nazareth."

She asked the assembled group, young and old, wise and tone deaf to kazoo along at one point and she giggled at the congregation's assorted buzzing, "Hey, that's pretty good."

The snappy ode, peppered with the borough's people and places ended with a nod to today's events.

"And there's a kazoo parade on the Fourth of July."
