Milt Thompson out, Greg Gross in as Phillies hitting coach

FROM KEITH GROLLER

I am sure that our Phillies and IronPigs blogs will be all over this, but I will just quickly pass along this release from the Phillies, and will add that I think Greg Gross is a class act who will help the Phillies get out of their hitting doldrums. GG was an excellent representative for the IronPigs and a good man in the community. He became very close to certain members of our staff through his affiliation with Drive Against ALS golf tournaments we've held for Larry O'Rourke.

THOMPSON RELIEVED OF HIS DUTIES

Milt Thompson has been relieved of his duties as hitting coach for the Philadelphia Phillies, Manager Charlie Manuel announced today.

Greg Gross, who has been serving as a coach for triple-A Lehigh Valley the past three seasons (2008-10), will assume hitting coach duties for the Phillies. Gross, 57, was the Phillies’ major league hitting coach from 2002-04 before being reassigned to the player development system in 2005. As a player, he spent 10 years with the Phillies (1979-88) and played in two World Series with the club (1980, 1983).
