Nazareth stays alive in American Legion Region 2 baseball tournament

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

day after losing an 11-10 slugfest to Pennridge in the opening round of the American Legion Region 2 baseball tournament, Nazareth locked up in a pitchers duel in an elimination game against Twin Valley.

Pitcher Chris Kent scattered four hits and first baseman D.J. King supplied a big RBI double in the seventh inning as manager Frank Jurasits' club remained alive in the double-elimination format with a 4-1 win over the Raiders.

"This is the first time I pitched in two years -- either high school or legion," said Kent. "I just went in there with a care-free attitude. I tried to throw strikes and let the defense make the plays for me."

Tied 1-1 after six innings, King drove home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth and came around to score an insurance run on an RBI single by Karl Keglovits.

Nazareth advances to a Monday contest against the loser of West Lawn and Kutztown.
