Setting the scene for the final night of the regular season in A-town HS hoops

FROM KEITH GROLLER

I will have more from Andre Reed's well-done celebrity golf tournament later, including info on a special wings sauce he will have out just in time for football season. All profits made from the sauce will go toward Andre's charities.

Just want to set the stage for the final night in the regular season of the Allentown High School Boys Basketball League. A lot of people are really excited because of what Allen has done in winning both the Stellar and SportsFest titles and they want to see if the Canaries can register a third championship in the upcoming playoffs.

Allen hadn't lost in the city league until a defeat to Becahi last Thursday night. After all they have accomplished this summer, the Canaries were probably due for a letdown and the Golden Hawks are one of those teams who figure to be improved this coming winter.

Still, Allen and Jalen Cannon (pictured in a playoff game against Whitehall last year) have been the story of the summer and we'll see if they can write one more chapter in the week ahead.

Thanks to John Hrebik, here are the standings and a look at the playoffs.

Allen 12 - 1

Becahi 10 - 3

Emmaus 10 - 3

Freedom 10 - 3

Liberty 9 - 4

Bangor 8 - 4

Faith Christian 7 - 5

Dieruff 7 - 6

Whitehall 7 - 6

Nazareth 6 - 7

Salisbury 6 - 7

Pleasant Valley 4 - 8

Quakertown 4 - 8

CCHS #2 4 - 9

Parkland 4 - 9

CCHS #1 3 - 10

Boyertown 3 - 10

Southern Lehigh 1 - 12

Here is the playoff information:

Top 8 teams will make the playoffs.

1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5.

Tuesday, July 27th is the last playing date of the regular season.

Thursday, July 29th are the Quarterfinals ( 2 games @ 6:15 and 2 games @ 7:15 ) Friday, July 30th are the Semifinals ( 1 game @ 6:15 and 1 game @ 7:15 ) Tuesday, August 3rd is the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME @ 7:00

In regard to the playoffs, it looks like the final spot will be decided between Whitehall and Dieruff. Whitehall plays Freedom tonight and the Huskies play one of the Central teams.
