The Tammy Smith era at Lafayette College is over.
Smith was not retained as head coach of the Leopards' women's basketball program after Lafayette finished 6-23, including 4-10 in the Patriot League. Lafayette went 57-204 under Smith, who took over the program in 2001 as the college's fourth coach in women's basketball.
"During her career at Lafayette, Tammy Smith played a leading role in several memorable moments for our women's basketball program, including last year's championship run," Bruce McCutcheon, director of athletics at Lafayette, said in a news release. "We would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Tammy for her nine years of service to the college and to our student-athletes. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors."
Lafayette has begun a national search for Smith's successor.
The Leopards ended the season with a 77-49 loss to American in the first round of the Patriot League tournament last week. Lafayette returns four starters and nine letter winners in all for the 2010-11 season.
Smith was hired at Lafayette in May of 2001 following seven years at Muhlenberg College. She previously served as head girls coach at North Warren Regional High School.
