Upper Nazareth Township supervisors on Wednesday night slashed property taxes by 7.1 percent as part of its 2010 budget, according to to a statement from the township.

In a 5-0 vote, supervisors adjusted the millage rate from 3.5 mills to 3.25 mills. Under the new rate, the owner of a home assessed at $100,000 would pay $325 in property taxes to the township or a decrease of $25.

Township officials said the decrease will generate $40,000 in savings to taxpayers.

Supervisors, who have not increased taxes since 2004, attributed the decrease to a fiscally conservative approach and sound management decisions by township staff.
