BLIZZARD TV COVERAGE

Here’s a press release from 6ABC about Saturday’s winter storm:

(Philadelphia, PA) It was a snowfall for the ages! The region saw its second-biggest snowstorm in history (the largest December accumulation ever), and viewers turned to the station they trust – 6abc. In the days leading up to it, the AccuWeather team of meteorologists - Cecily Tynan, Adam Joseph, David Murphy, Karen Rogers, and Melissa Magee - accurately predicted the storm, and when it arrived, Action News offered extended coverage to keep the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys informed. From the early Saturday morning hours, and all day and night, the Action News storm team had the coverage viewers depend on, and expect.

Viewers made their choice early in the day, and stuck with Action News on 6abc, as they waited out the storm. At 7am, 6abc’s 7 rating / 21 share nearly equaled the competition combined. And with more than 200-thousand households watching, it doubled the number of viewers watching NBC10. 6abc’s 7-8am coverage of the storm actually garnered more viewers than either KYW or WCAU delivered at 11pm! And from 8-9am, it was the same result!

At the height of the storm, over 350-thousand households tuned into Action News at 6pm with Rob Jennings. That’s more than double the number of viewers watching the second place WCAU (159-thousand). In fact, 6abc’s 6-7pm ratings equaled all of the competition combined (WCAU / KYW / WXTF).

The high ratings continued for 6abc at 11pm, with nearly a quarter of a million households viewing the late news broadcast. Action News’ 11pm viewership dwarfed second place KYW’s Eyewitness News ratings, with a 62% advantage.

It was also a record setting weekend for 6abc.com! Online users went to the station’s website in huge numbers, recording more than 3.5 million page views (web & wireless) from Friday to Sunday. This is the biggest 3-day December total on record for WPVI’s market leading website.
