Don’t forget about two great New Year’s Day traditions -- the Mummers and Tournament of Roses parades. I always like to check in on both for a bit.
According to the Associated Press, the Mummers have agreed to pay $150,000 to the city of Philadelphia for costs associated with their annual New Year's Day parade. The Mummers said Wednesday that they have already raised nearly two-thirds of the money. It will go toward police, street clean-up and other costs, the AP says. Weather could still threaten the parade; Mummers' leaders say they will meet at 4 a.m. then notify the city if the parade will go on, the AP is reporting.
If you’re planning to head out to see the parade live, here are the route and performance locations. The parade will be broadcast on WPHL TV Channel 17 starting 10:30 a.m. (and a preshow at 9 a.m.).
Right now, as another snowstorm blankets our region, I'm daydreaming about how awesome it would be to see the Rose Parade live in Pasadena, Calif. But, no! ABC, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, NBC, Travel Channel and Univision will all be carrying the parade, which starts 11 a.m. EST.
This year’s Rose Bowl game, at 4:30 p.m., will feature the No. 8 BCS-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes versus the No. 7 BCS-ranked Oregon Ducks. Between Rose Parade time and the game, ABC also will be carrying the Capital One Bowl matchup between LSU and Penn State. Root, root, root for the home team starting at 1 p.m.
