A second day of last-minute shopping has resulted in major traffic delays at the Northampton Crossings shopping center off Route 248 in Lower Nazareth Township, Colonial Regional Police report.
Police said reports about faulty traffic lights in the area are unfounded.
"It's just an extremely heavy volume of traffic," one patrolman said.
Police urged those who are not going to the mall to avoid the area. More stores, including a Target and a strip mall on the opposite side of Route 248, have made the problem worse this year, police said.
Converging traffic exiting the various shopping centers has caused delays reaching two hours. The exit ramp off Route 33 onto Route 248 has been completely backed up, police said.
