The field for the Colonial League softball tournament is just about set.
Pen Argyl, Bangor and Catasauqua are definitely in and Southern Lehigh took a big step toward the South Division title and the fourth and final slot with a wild, come-from- behind win over Salisbury on Wednesday.
They played a much more typical game at Pen Argyl where the Green Knights rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Bangor, 4-3.
Bangor will likely be playing Catty on Tuesday night in the semifinals at Pates and Pen Argyl will likely be facing the South Division champ, probably Southern Lehigh.
But if they don't meet in the semis, it wouldn't surprise me if the Slaters and Green Knights square off for the title a week from tonight in the first game of a title doubleheader at Pates Park. Both are playing very well at the moment.
Here's a look at that game and others from Wednesday:
COLONIAL LEAGUE
Pen Argyl 4, Bangor 3 -- Emily Smull WP with a 5-hitter. Brittany Ruch 3-4 and had game winning RBI, while Kaitlyn Caleen went 2-3 with 2 RBIs for Slaters.
Palisades 18, Saucon Valley 8 -- The Pirates overcame eight errors and 13 hits by Saucon with 16 hits of their own and also benefitted from numerous walks. Meg McClintock 3-4, 2B, 3B, 2 Rs; Karlee Krchnavi 4-4, 2 2Bs, 3 R's, 2 RBI'; Katlyn Gabriel 3-3, 3 R's, 3 RBIs; Allie Geller 2-3, 3 Rs, 2 RBIs; Paige Scholl 2-3, 2 Rs, 2 RBIs.
Wilson 3, Notre Dame 2 -- The Warriors, we believe, still have a slim shot at making the Colonial League playoffs with this closer than expected win over the winless Crusaders. Devyn Losco 2-2, 2B, HR, R, RBI; Madison Oren 2B, RBI, CG 8 Ks; Christine Fitzgerald Go-Ahead RBI 2B in 6th.
Palmerton 10, Northern Lehigh 5 -- Blue Bombers have played much better in recent weeks after a shaky start.
LEHIGH VALLEY CONFERENCE
Nazareth 7, Easton 6 -- This loss may have knocked the Red Rovers out of the District 11 tournament. Game featured five home runs, including two by Easton's Rebecca Mitch and two by Nazareth's Brooke Lichty. Kelly Setzer also hit a two-run HR for the Blue Eagles.
Bethlehem Catholic 12, Dieruff 0 -- No info available.
Whitehall 12, Nazareth 8 -- Actually played on Tuesday.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE
Pocono Mt. East 9-13, E.S. North 4-10 -- No further info available, but Cardinals now look like the fourth playoff team in the MVC behind Pleasant Valley, Stroudsburg and Lehighton.
NONLEAGUE
Catasauqua picked up a forfeit win over Pius X.
Lehighton 10, Jim Thorpe 9 -- WP: Maggie Holloway. Amanda Louden 2-run HR.
Freedom 8, ES South 1 -- The Patriots won't make league playoffs, but could dangerous in districts. Kylee Schwind 3-hitter; Megan Brown 4-5, Hunter Schantz 3-3, 2B.
Liberty 10, Stroudsburg 3 -- Victoria Schmidt scattered eight hits and the Hurricanes collected 13 as they took a break from LVC playoff race.
