PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JIMMY VAUGHAN, CENTRAL CATHOLIC
If you look at scoring averages alone, you’ll never get the value of what senior guard Jimmy Vaughan means to unbeaten Central Catholic. Vaughan is averaging just 3.4 points per game.
But Vaughan is key to the foundation of the Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 3A champions.
“He sacrifices a lot of scoring because of the guys he has playing around him and doesn’t complain at all,” CCHS coach Dennis Csensits said. “He’s second on the team in steals and assists with close to four in each category and he’s a tenacious defender and competitor. We’re a much better team when he’s on the floor.”
Vaughan, being a contributor all four seasons he has been at CCHS, has earned the respect of his teammates as well as the entire student body.
“He’s definitely a guy with leadership ability and can pull a lot of people together,” Csensits said. “He has done that on our team the last couple of years. He’s a very good communicator and does it on the floor and off the floor. When we’re in adverse situations, he’s very good at getting people’s attention and getting guys to focus on the next play.”
Because Vaughan will not play in college, he is putting his heart and soul into getting CCHS as far as possible in this state tournament.
“He’s ranked in the top 10 percent of his class and has put himself in position to have very nice academic opportunities,” Csensits said. “He will go to a very good school and may go on to law school beyond that. He’s a true student-athlete with high aspirations on and off the court. He has represented Central Catholic really well.”
