Saturday's boys basketball scoreboard; updated standings

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Obviously, being in New York City for Andre Reed's big moment, I had my mind occupied elsewhere on Saturday.
But Roger Pence, my radio show colleague and The Morning Call's "King of Sports Agate" has passed along the scores from Saturday's games. Here's a look at the scores, followed by the updated standings:
Marian Catholic 51, Jim Thorpe 30 -- Tough first year for Allen grad Kyle Whary with the Olympians.
Pottsville Nativity 45, Pen Argyl 35 -- Green Knights won't make the district playoffs, but Kyle Hutnik has made his mark in first year as coach.
Freedom 57, Stroudsburg 49 -- The Patriots have come back to life. Nigel Long scored 17.
Reading 79, Liberty 67 -- Hurricanes need to win three of last four to qualify for districts. It won't be easy.
Palmerton 67, Panther Valley 55 -- Second win of the season for the Blue Bombers and first-year coach Leigh Keenan.
ES North 59, Dieruff 54 -- Like Liberty, Huskies must also win three of their last four to qualify for districts. Isaiah Battle scored 25 for the Timberwolves.
Blue Mountain 54, Pleasant Valley 38 -- Things have gone south for the Bears.
Pius X 69, Shenandoah Valley 35 -- Eric Marbury scored 23, but Brody Plant made his presence felt with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the red-hot Royals.
Catasauqua 54, Wilson 32 -- Paryss Marshall with a big day for the Roughies, who look like a team that's determined to make the league playoffs. Warriors might miss districts.
Pocono Mt. West 63, Whitehall 53 -- I wouldn't bet against the Panthers winning another MVC title and making another run at districts. Joe Wiggins scored 19.
Notre Dame-ES 53, Moravian Academy 46 -- Luke Gutekunst, who has become the Lions all-time leading scorer, added 18 to his total.
Allen 58, Pocono Mountain East 32 -- Certainly no letdown here for the Canaries coming off that big win at Emmaus the night before. Former Allen coaches Mark Smurda and Bob Freed will be honored in a pregame ceremony on Tuesday night at 6:30 prior to the Canaries game against unbeaten Central Catholic.
Tamaqua 66, Lehighton 54 -- The Indians have already qualified for districts, but probably still wanted this one. Brett Kosciolek back in the lineup for the Blue Raiders and he made his presence felt with 20.
