Boys basketball notes: Better keep Saturday free if you want to see the championship games

FROM KEITH GROLLER

As they have done all season, the athletic directors of our various high schools have had to put a contignency plan in place in case the next snowstorm is so bad that Friday night's championship games can't be played as scheduled.
Nothing has been decided yet, but if the games are unplayable on Friday night, there will probably be a pair of championship doubleheaders on Saturday at Freedom.
The LVC girl-boy doubleheader would be played in the afternoon, maybe as early as noon and 2 p.m. at Freedom. The reason for the shift from Liberty to Freedom would be the superior parking situation.
The Colonial League has already decided that if Friday's games are postponed, it will go with a 6 p.m. girls title game and an 8 p.m. boys championship game on Saturday, still at Freedom.
Should the leagues need to go to Saturday, it would likely mean that the District 11 tournament pairings wouldn't be released until Sunday.
The 3A boys are set to start on Tuesday night and the 4A boys on Wednesday.
At last glance, there were nine teams qualified in Class 4A with Liberty playing Wednesday afternoon against Phoenixville. If the Hurricanes win, they'll be the 10th team and there will be two games on Wednesday night at the home of the higher seed.
If the Hurricanes fail to qualify, there would be just one game on Wednesday night.
In 3A, 10 teams have qualified meaning there will be two games. And the matchups seem set: Tamaqua at Lehighton and Northern Lehigh at Saucon Valley.
In 2A, just five teams have qualified, meaning there won't be a game until Saturday, Feb. 22 and then just one quarterfinal will be played. The semis, which will feature Notre Dame and Catasauqua in some fashion, will be played on Weds., Feb. 26 with the finals on Saturday March 1.

Pius X will be honoring its seniors tonight before its regular season finale tonight in Roseto against Moravian Academy.
The ceremony is set to begin at 6:15 with the game to start at about 6:30.
Both the Royals (16-3) and Lions (12-9) have qualified for the District 11 Class A tournament.

The Schuylkill League title game, scheduled for the moment for Friday night at Martz Hall, will feature Mahanoy Area against Pottsville.
Mahanoy Area (21-2) defeated Blue Mountain 49-35 and Pottsville whipped Williams Valley 56-30 in Tuesday's semis.
The Crimson Tide (20-3) are the four-time defending league champs and defeated Mahanoy Area 35-21 in last year's title game.
