High School Player of the Week
Kiley Kuchar, Bangor

The Bangor softball team is off to a 3-1 start, one of its best beginnings since its Colonial League and District 11 championship spring of 2008.
One of the reasons for the good getaway is junior centerfielder Kiley Kuchar.
Through the team’s first four games, Kuchar was 7-for-14 with a double, two home runs and nine RBIs, all out of the leadoff spot. Both of the home runs and four of the RBIs came in one game against East Stroudsburg South.
“Kiley is a quiet kid, but leads by example,” first-year Slaters coach Nick Ambrosius said. “She just goes out and plays the game hard.”
Kuchar played soccer in the spring of her freshman year, but came over to softball in 2012 and has become a fixture for the Slaters.
“She’s got quick feet, good hands and moves really well,” Ambrosius said. “She has been a key for us on offense and is an excellent defensive player. In our game against Palmerton, she made a catch in deep center on the dead run. Very few other players would have made that catch.”

College Player of the Week
Dior George, Moravian

Even though she was the Landmark Conference rookie of the year and a first-team all-conference selection in 2012 after batting .375 with 15 doubles, 22 steals and 45 runs scored, Moravian outfielder Dior George feels more comfortable this spring.
Certainly, she is not experiencing a sophomore jinx, batting .441 with 30 runs scored out of the leadoff spot through her team’s first 20 games.
“I was a little tentative last year,” George said. “This year I am trying to be more of a leader and step it up on and off the field. I knew more of what to expect and how everything works as a college softball player. That one year of experience made a whole lot of difference.”
George, who was a high school standout down the street at Liberty, talked about the differences between levels and playing for a nationally ranked program like Moravian.
“High school softball is more about the physical part of the game, but college is more about the mental part,” George said. “You have to be mentally prepared for everything and zoned in. In high school, the coaches are more lenient. Here, it’s much more strict.”
