Parkland High School placed second overall at the Pennsylvania State High School Powerlifting Championships at the Glen Mills Schools on Saturday.
Perennial state champion and national powerhouse Glen Mills won its 28th consecutive state high school team title.
The meet featured more than 175 lifters from approximately 15 high schools throughout the state. Other Lehigh Valley-area schools involved included Palmerton and Salisbury.
Some weight classes had as many as 16 competitors. Parkland had multiple medalists. Here are the names: (JV is 9th and 10th grade; varsity is 11th and 12th):
Bronze: Nigel Redmond (148 lbs JV), Jeray Elder (165 lbs JV), David Wong (220 Var), Josh Walmer (242 Var), Shane Fisher (275 JV), Zech Rauch (275 Var)
Silver: Dylan McVitty (123 JV), Amir Wallace (181 JV), Tanner Stengel (181 Var), Ethan Happel (220 JV)
Gold: James Gallagher (132 JV), Tom Stenulis (275 JV), Paul Tajiri (198 Var), Ryan Dupre (242 Var)
Additionally, Ryan Dupre broke a 20-year-old state record in the bench press in the 242-pound class with a lift of 425 pounds, and Paul Tajiri was named Best Lifter of the meet, pound for pound, by totaling 1470 in the 198 class.
