FROM THE MORNING CALL

The Lehigh Valley Baseball Academy and Elite Championship Tournament Baseball gave a $4,000 sponsorship check to District 11 at a Monday afternoon press conference, allowing the district to keep its four championship baseball games at Coca-Cola Park for a fourth straight season. The sponsorship will cover half of the $8,000 the IronPigs charge District 11 to host its title games.
District 11 chairman and Northwestern athletic director Jason Zimmerman said that without the sponsorship, the district would likely have been forced to move the baseball title games to a different site this season. A previous sponsorship from Coca-Cola helped defray the district's costs in 2010 and 2011, but last year the district paid the full cost to use Coca-Cola Park. With attendance at its live events dwindling and costs rising, District 11 could not justify paying the full $8,000 for a second straight year.
Zimmerman and District 11 baseball chairman Scott Cooperman both emphasized that the IronPigs were giving District 11 the best possible price for the two-day use of Coca-Cola Park. IronPigs general manager Kurt Landes said at the press conference that the price charged to District 11 was only to cover costs and included no profit.
District 11 is scheduled to conduct its baseball championships at Coca-Cola Park with doubleheaders on Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29.
