Bethlehem votes to raise property taxes 7 percent

Bethlehem City Council tonight approved the city’s 2013 budget, which raises property taxes 7 percent and was called the city’s toughest budget in recent history.
Facing a $5 million budget gap, Mayor John Callahan proposed a budget that included new revenues from changing the city’s garbage collection system, seeking contributions from nonprofits and initiating an event ticket tax.
