Nazareth councilman wants residents to spruce up properties

http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/nazareth/index.ssf/2012/08/nazareth_councilman_wants_resi.html FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES A Nazareth councilman wants borough residents to beautify their properties. Councilman Carl Fischl has proposed writing letters to property owners who haven't been mowing grass, cutting back shrubs, pulling weeds or touching up areas with paint and gently remind them about the borough's property maintenance ordinance. He said a similar concept had been implemented in Easton. "It would be just a little refreshing of the town," said Fischl, who also sits on the borough's ecology committee. "It'll be nice to let people know to please consider sprucing up their property. I thought it's a great idea what Easton is doing and thought it would be a nice thing to incorporate it in our little town." Fischl initially brought up the topic during Thursday's workshop after he said the ecology committee walked the downtown streets and saw properties in disrepair. Fischl wants each council member involved, walking the areas of their individual wards and jotting down eyesores, under the proposal. "This would be a great way to restore civic pride through civic duty," Fischl said.
