Sports Media Weekly Podcast No. 97- Ken Schott, Schenectady Gazette

Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites and I have quite a bit on our plate on this week’s edition of the Sports Media Weekly Podcast.

We start off by looking at the coverage by CBS and Turner Sports of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Both Ken and I are impressed by how the networks have handled the tournament in its second year of sharing coverage.

We then talk about how recent NFL headlines (Saint suspensions, Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow) have been handled by the sports media.

We touch upon the nominations for the 33rd Annual Sports Emmy Awards and what the judges were thinking with some of the nominations (Skip Bayless?)

We wrap up our news segment by looking at the new partnership between Fox and the MLB Network (MLBN) where MLBN will be producing Fox’s Saturday pre-game baseball show, how NASCAR fans who subscribe to SiriusXM Radio can now follow the action online, and the childish behavior of one Bob Knight.

Our guest this week is Ken Schott, sports writer for the Schenectady Gazette. Ken covers college hockey and tells us how the paper plans to cover #1 seed Union College in the tournament. We talk about how college hockey is covered (or not) by the networks and the penetration of sports media in New York’s Capital Region.
