Parkland High grad and Ursinus junior Jon Ward needs just four to reach the 1,000-point mark in his career. Ward, a preseason All-American selection by several publications, will likely reach the milestone on Wednesday night when his team plays at Haverford.

Ward is averaging 20.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Bears, who are struggling at 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the Centennial Conference.

He is shooting 63.4 percent from the field and 75 percent from the foul line. He has six assists and six blocks.

Northampton High graduate Kara Bonenberger continues to make her mark as a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania.

For the second straight week, Bonenberger earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors.

The league office announced the award Monday after she nearly averaged a double-double last week.

Bonenberger nearly posted a double-double in a historic win over Lafayette Wednesday and then outscored National Player of the Year Candidate, Skylar Diggins, in a matchup with No. 3 Notre Dame Friday. She nearly averaged a double-double with 8.5 points and rebounds per game last week.

The freshman had a team-high and career-best 10 rebounds against the Leopards as the Quakers set a school record with the best start in program history. She also added eight points, two assists and a block.

On the road against the third-best team in the nation, Bonenberger led the Quakers with nine points and seven rebounds and had a game-high two blocks in just 22 minutes of action.

Bonenberger and the Quakers are off until Saturday when they host Army at The Palestra at 7 p.m.
