FROM KEITH GROLLER
Parkland High graduate and Ursinus junior Jon Ward went over the 1,000-point mark in his career on Wednesday night when he scored 22 points in the Bears' 77-58 win over Haverford.
He entered the game just needing four points to reach 1,000.
He is the 26th men's player in school history to reach 1,000.
Ward, a 6-10 junior, still has a lot of games left to play for Ursinus. He is averaging a team-best 20.7 points per game this season.
However, the school's all-time record of 1,973 set by Nick Shattuck, who graduated in 2008, would be difficult to reach.
Ursinus is now 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial Conference.
The Bears have just one more game left -- against Dickinson on Saturday -- and then enter the holiday break. Ursinus will be playing two games in Las Vegas between Christmas and New Year's.
