COLONIAL LEAGUE FOOTBALL NEWS

FROM THE MORNING CALL

Salisbury and Palisades reached double figures in points scored this season.

Bangor gave up its first points of the season.

But the five unbeatens remained so after three weekends of Colonial League action.

Bangor, Catasauqua, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern and Pen Argyl all sit at 3-0 entering Week 4.

The five winless teams remain, too.

And Southern Lehigh is a pretty darn good 1-2 club.

On with the rankings (previous week’s rankings in parenthesis):

1. Pen Argyl (1): Its third win didn’t come as easy as the first two, but coach Paul Reduzzi’s club pulled away from Notre Dame-GP.
2. Northern Lehigh (2): Despite seven penalties, another methodical win thanks to no turnovers and three TD passes from Dylan Hofmann.
3. Bangor (3): The Slaters finally beat the Spartans in a regular-season game (first since 2004) but needed a fourth-quarter rally at home. Still, big momentum-building win.
4. Northwestern (6): An offensive juggernaut forming as the Tigers racked up 383 yards rushing against Wilson.
5. Southern Lehigh (4): I know. Two losses in three games. But the Spartans have had the toughest schedule to date of any CL club.
6. Catasauqua (5): Trailed at halftime to Palisades but a 28-0 third quarter. The Rough Riders should win their next two before a trip Oct. 7 to Bangor.
7. Palmerton (7): Cody Grohotolski ran for a TD, threw for 172 and a score in the Blue Bombers’ win over Salisbury in a game that was tied at half.
8. Notre Dame-GP (9): The best 0-3 team as this point after trailing only 14-0 going into the third quarter at Pen Argyl. But Bangor comes to town Friday night.
9. Wilson (8): An 0-3 start isn’t cool, but allowing 130 points in the process is alarming. But the Warriors’ three foes are a combined 9-0.
10. Palisades (11): Showed signs of life in loss to Catty, leading at halftime and staying competitive in the fourth quarter.
11. Saucon Valley (10): Three turnovers, six penalties, no points against Northern Lehigh.
12. Salisbury (12): Three lost fumbles in a tie game in the third quarter is no way to get your first win, but there were improvements.
