The Ohio Valley Refinery and Roadshow wants your antiques and collectibles.
The show came into Lower Nazareth Township on Tuesday with about $300,000 to buy Lehigh Valley residents' treasures. The show's final day 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Hampton Inn on Route 248.
As of Thursday afternoon, the show had spent about $40,000 on items including gold jewelry to an 1897 Martin Guitar, said Angela Wright, field manager for THR & Associates, which is running the show.
The guitar’s owner did not play the instrument, and it had been passed down through his family. It was worth between $2,500 to $3,500, Wright said.
"I hadn't seen one that age before today," Wright said.
A man on Thursday got $2,500 for a sterling silver flatware set, she said.
The shows bring in an eclectic mix of things and people, Wright said. Buyers are interested in coins, old paper currency, jewelry, war memorabilia, old toys and time pieces.
And then there are the rare finds, like a vampire killing kit worth $10,000 or Elvis' fifth-grade report card.
Since unique and wacky items can be worth a lot of loot, Wright encourages collectors unsure of what an item is worth to bring it in for a free evaluation.
Given this week’s economic climate, Wright said, people mostly have brought in gold.
