Nazareth earmarks $5,000 for Spring Brook Terrace

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Nazareth Borough Council agreed to kick in $5,000 toward the cost of an estimated $19,000 drainage basin project on Spring Brook Terrace.

Councilman Mike Kopach made the motion at today's meeting to allocate the funds.

During its meeting last month, the Upper Nazareth Township supervisors agreed to front the remaining estimated $14,000 in funds for the project since the basin will be in the township.

The road is in the borough but gets soaked by runoff from the township, officials say. Spring Brook Terrace residents who complained said the borough never fulfilled a promise to fix the road. They say it needs new blacktop, curbs and better drainage. Residents had said they would pay for the curbing.

The goal is to complete the basin at the corner of Broad and Saint Elmo streets by the end of the year, according to Scott Sylvainus, vice chairman of the township supervisors.

"We're pleased that the borough and Upper Nazareth can partner together to make this happen," resident Brian Gordon said.
