Jordan Smith, Drew Borger named NorCo scholar-athletes

Jordan Smith and Drew Borger will be honored as the Northampton County American Legion League's scholar-athletes at the league's annual banquet on Friday night at the Meadows.

Smith graduated ninth in a class of 393 at Nazareth Area High School. He participated in golf and baseball at Nazareth and was a Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup championship team member. Smith also was a three-time all-state choral selection and has volunteered with the Angel 34 Foundation.

Smith will attend Lehigh University and major in chemical engineering. He is the son of Dennis and Joanne Smith of Nazareth.

Borger graduated eighth in a class of 490 at Pleasant Valley and was the Mountain Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete. He also was a member of the Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup squad and was a volunteer with Family Promise.

Borger, who played for Birches, will attend DeSales University and major in math. He is the son of Steve and Debra Borger of Kunkletown.

The Jeffs Democratic Club of Bethlehem will receive the Pete Kraft Unsung Hero Award. The Kraft Award is sponsored by the Freemansburg/Bethlehem Township Athletic Association and recognizes an individual, business or organization that provides resources, services or support in maintaining a NorCo team.
