Easton and Warren Hills cruise to opening night victories in Easton Invitational wrestling

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

A pair of dual meet matches tonight served as the appetizer for a full slate of wrestling on Saturday as local entrants Easton and Warren Hills posted wins over out-of-state opponents.

The Red Rovers racked up six falls and three technical falls en route to a 68-3 win over St. Xavier from Middletown, Conn.

"For my kids that might go undefeated in Connecticut, they don't because they usually come down here and get a loss," Falcons head coach Mike Cunningham said prior to the match. "I tell the kids, listen, this is what we are trying to get to."

Warren Hills knows a little about tough competition, having lost four early season matches (Camden Catholic, Franklin, Phillipsburg and South Brunswick) to teams ranked in the Top 20 in New Jersey.

The Blue Streaks got a little healthy by feasting on Brentsville, Virginia with a 42-21 victory sparked by wins by all four freshman in coach Jarrett Hosbach's lineup.

"I thought it was a real nice job by our freshmen tonight," Hosbach said. "We can't count on freshmen to carry us all year. We are going to have to get some better efforts from some of our upperclassmen and that's got to start tomorrow."

The event continues on Saturday with 12 hours of wrestling on five mats, beginning at 9 a.m.
