Missing game led to a channel discovery

Maureen Quilter, a contact person for Comcast SportsNet, saw my previous post about struggling to find the Phillies game on Saturday night and was kind enough to tell me that the game was on The Comcast Network.

On my Service Electric digital box, The Comcast Network can be found on dial position 101.

In my search for the Phillies, I flipped through a bunch of channels, but didn't get to 101.

Evidently, RCN doesn't offer the channel at all. Not sure why. I have a busy Monday lined up, including a trip to Philly for the Phillies home opener. But when I get a chance I may try to get an answer why RCN doesn't offer The Comcast Network. My guess is that it's a cost issue.

CN8, which I believe is no more, used to do a few Phillies games per year and they popped up on Service Electric Channel 50. The difference here is that The Comcast Network has a permanent location on the Service Electric lineup.

Maureen did tell me that Wednesday's Phillies game will also be seen on The Comcast Network, but she said that's scheduled to be the last Phillies game of the season to be broadcast on The Comcast Network.

And nothing against TCN, but people love familiarity with their channels and Phillies fans are used to going to Comcast SportsNet for the Phillies, and if not there, they know to go to WPHL-Channel 17 which seems to have many more Phillies games than usual this year.

Considering the team's success in recent years and their 5-1 start this year and the fact that tickets to games at Citizens Bank Park grow more and more difficult to get, the Phillies are a ratings magnet whenever they play. But fans hate to play a guessing game when it comes to finding their team.

With the Flyers making the playoffs, there is the potential of more conflicts with the Phillies on Comcast SportsNet. I am sure Maureen will keep us informed of that schedule as well.

Again, thanks to her and those who posted comments to explain the mystery to me.
