From The Post-Gazette:
"The Allegheny County District Attorney's office today filed criminal charges against state Sen. Republican Whip Jane Orie, R-McCandless, and her sister, Janine Orie, an aide to state Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin, in a grand jury investigation that reached into one of Western Pennsylvania's most powerful political families.
Jack Orie, a Pittsburgh attorney and brother of the defendants, confirmed the charges today after both women arrived 90 minutes early for an arraignment before District Judge William K. Wagner in McCandless.
The charges were recommended in an 80-page grand jury presentment that alleges, among other things, that Jane and Janine Orie participated in a scheme to use the senator's state office and employees to assist Joan Orie Melvin's successful 2009 bid for the state Supreme Court."
