By now, I am sure the boys basketball people are tired of me reminding them that it's been since 1986 that a District 11 team has won a state title.
This is the 24th season since that one and while I wish our teams good luck, I will be surprised -- no, make that, shocked -- if any of them are cutting down the nets the weekend of March 26-27 at Penn State.
Hope I am wrong about that, but the history of the past 20 years shows how difficult it is for any of our teams just to get to the middle of the weekend of the tournament, meaning they won two games.
To me, that's our benchmark. If you can get to that middle weekend, then you've officially made a strong state tournament run. Beyond that, of course, is icing and very exciting and five teams have been able to reach either the state semis or finals since the 1990-91 season.
And I count 31 teams who have won at least two state tourney games over the past 19 years, which doesn't seem too bad. However, just seven D11 teams have won two over the last eight years since the tournament got much tougher with the influx of Philly teams.
Take a look at how District 11 has fared in states over the past two decades and I've bold-faced the teams that won at least two games to show how difficult it can be::
