—————–
(Philadelphia, PA) - Everybody loves a good David vs. Goliath story, and that’s exactly what America got at last night’s Oscars. And more than 1.2 million local viewers tuned in to see the small budget film The Hurt Locker best the mega-blockbuster Avatar.
The 29.1 rating (approx. 859,000 homes) on 6abc is the highest rated non-NFL TV program in the past year, including the 2010 Grammy Awards and the 2010 Winter Olympics. Last night’s Oscar audience is the highest in four years, with a 7% increase from last year (22% higher than 2008).
6abc easily came out the winner the entire night. Starting at 7pm, The Barbara Walters Special easily took the time period, with an 11.8 rating and nearly ½ million viewers. At 8pm, the numbers doubled to an audience of more than 1 million with ABC’s Countdown to the Oscars. And Action News’ late night news audience (9.2 rating) was larger than the entire competition combined!
