Catasauqua coach Eric Snyder says he has three senior leaders on his team. Brandon Purrone and Paryss Marshall, Snyder said, are the more vocal ones.
Derrick Bond, meanwhile, is the quiet one.
But some of his shots can be heard around the league.Derrick Bond
Bond, a 6-foot-3 swingman, has hit some big buckets for the Rough Riders during their recent stretch of good play that has included wins over Southern Lehigh and Salisbury.
He made a big 3-pointer that put Catty into overtime in a game against Northampton last month, but has come up even bigger lately with a big 3-pointer and game-winning follow against Southern Lehigh and a clutch 3-pointer against Salisbury.
Bond, who is averaging 8.8 points on the season,  has upped that average to 12.8 over the past five games, He scored nine points in Wednesday’s rout of Lehighton, which was Snyder’s 300th career win.
“He wants to get into the Navy and he’s a great kid,” Snyder said. “He’s the president of the Varsity C club, a member of the National Honor Society. He’s a top-notch student.”
And not only is he smart, but he’s composed.
“He’s real level-headed,” Snyder said. “There’s not a lot of ups and downs with him. He stays even-keeled all the way through. Even when he made a huge follow shot for us against Southern Lehigh, he stayed matter-of-fact. He didn’t go nuts. He’s not emotional, but he always plays hard..”
