Parkland graduate Andre Williams ran for a school-record 295
yards on 30 carries in Boston College's 48-34 win over New Mexico State
in Las Cruces, NM, on Saturday. He scored on TD runs of 80 and 48 yards
in the final five minutes of the game to allow the Eagles to pull away
from a 34-34 tie.
Williams, the leading rusher in the ACC and No. 2 in the FBS in yards
per game, helped Boston College (5-4) snap a nine-game losing streak on
the road.
It was his third 200-yard rushing effort of the season with
the previous high being 264 yards against Army on Oct. 5. Williams now
has rushed for 966 yards and 10 TDs in the past five games.
He has reached the 100-yard plateau seven times this season, and Saturday was his fourth game with at least 30 carries.
Williams has 1,471 yards this season; the single-season school record is 1,726 by Mike Cloud in 1998.
Williams rushed for 1,562 yards in his first three seasons with the Eagles.
According to Mike Huguenin of NFL.com, he has gone from a fringe NFL
prospect to one of the three or four best senior backs in the nation.
Huguenin said he doesn't have elite speed, but
calls him "a rugged, physical runner with some shiftiness, and he
obviously can handle a heavy workload."
