NBC10 JOINS FORCES WITH COMCAST SPORTSNET PHILADELPHIA TO DELIVER UNPARALLELED DAILY SPORTS COVERAGE
NBC10’s Sports Strengthened by Comcast SportNet’s Production Resources
PHILADELPHIA, PA – (November 17, 2013) – To serve the millions of passionate sports fans throughout the region, NBC10 Philadelphia and Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia today announced a new and expansive news programming alliance that will deliver an unprecedented level of sports coverage within more than 700 NBC10 newscasts throughout the year. Beginning in January, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia’s award-winning sports, news and information will power NBC10’s sports reports, featured in multiple newscasts every day.
Kicking off a new era for daily sports coverage on TV in Philadelphia, this new collaboration will serve the Philadelphia sports community like never before—aligning Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia’s dedicated all-sports staff, which produces over 1,600 hours of award-winning sports news and analysis annually, with NBC10’s unparalleled local newsgathering, weather and traffic expertise. This new collaboration will also benefit from both outlets’ relationship with the larger NBC Sports Group, which presents many of the most-watched sports properties in all of television, including Sunday Night Football and the upcoming 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, beginning February 6.
The combination provides NBC10 with access to the most comprehensive sports TV operation in Philadelphia and resources that no other broadcast affiliate in the region can match.
The partnership between Comcast SportsNet and NBC10 will include:
Daily Sports Coverage
Beginning in January, Comcast SportsNet will produce and provide complete sports coverage for NBC10 newscasts. Comcast SportsNet’s award-winning journalists will contribute to NBC10 newscasts, by providing inside access to coaches, players and movers and shakers in Philadelphia and around the country. NBC10 journalists will continue to contribute to Comcast SportsNet’s sports coverage on Philly Sports Talk, SportsNite, Full Contact and other programs.
Olympics Coverage
NBC10’s Vai Sikahema will travel to the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia and provide coverage for both NBC10 and Comcast SportsNet. Sikahema will report on the Olympic drama as it unfolds, and will provide updates on local athletes going for the gold.
Online and Digital Collaborations
CSNPhilly.com’s extensive sports content will continue to power NBC10.com’s sports section. CSNPhilly.com’s team of online columnists, insiders and contributors will be complimented by NBC10.com’s sports coverage. Other multiplatform collaborations will be explored.
NBC10 First Alert Weather
NBC10 meteorologists Sheena Parveen and Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz will continue to provide weather forecasts for Comcast SportsNet’s on-air and online daily sports coverage, as weather conditions can have a significant impact on sporting events. With over 90 years of combined experience, NBC10’s First Alert Weather team of certified meteorologists is the premier weather source for viewers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
Sports Special Programming
NBC10’s High School Blitz program, now wrapping up it’s debut season, will continue in the Fall of 2014 as a joint effort between NBC10 and Comcast SportsNet. High School Blitz currently airs on NBC10, Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network.
“NBC10 is proud to be working with Comcast SportsNet,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC10. “We’re committed to finding creative ways to work with CSN and feel strongly that this unique collaboration will provide passionate Philadelphia sports fans with the best sports coverage in the market.”
