http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2012/12/70th-annual-golden-globe-awards.html The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards nominees have been announced! HBO leads with 15 (down from its 18 from last year) nominations. Showtime follows with 8 (the same as last year). ABC leads the broadcast nominees with 5 this year (up from the 4 of last year), followed by NBC and CBS with 4 and Fox with 2. Homeland was the most nominated television series with 4 this year, while Modern Family had 3. The telecast airs LIVE on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 from 8-11pm ET/5-8pm PT on NBC hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Here are the major nominees: BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL The Big Bang Theory (CBS) Episodes (Showtime) Girls (HBO) Modern Family (ABC) Smash (NBC) COMMENTS: No 30 Rock or New Girl this year, while Smash is in. And Glee is finally out. Modern Family should win it. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL Zooey Deschanel, New Girl (Fox) Lena Dunham, Girls (HBO) Tina Fey, 30 Rock (NBC) Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The Veep (HBO) Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation (NBC) COMMENTS: No real surprises here and no favorite either. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock (NBC) Don Cheadle, House of Lies (Showtime) Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory (CBS) Louis C.K., Louie (FX) Matt LeBlanc, Episodes (Showtime) COMMENTS: Jim Parsons is back on, while co-star Johnny Galecki is off. I'm betting on Baldwin to win. BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA Boardwalk Empire (HBO) Breaking Bad (AMC) Downton Abbey (PBS) The Newsroom (HBO) Homeland (Showtime) COMMENTS: All cable (and PBS) again. Homeland is problably the favorite. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA Connie Britton, Nashville (ABC) Claire Danes, Homeland (Showtime) Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife (CBS) Glenn Close, Damages (DirecTV) Michelle Dockery, Homeland (HBO) COMMENTS: No Madeleine Stowe this year, but Connie Britton is in. Anyone's game here, but rooting for Britton. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire (HBO) Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad (AMC) Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom (HBO) Jon Hamm, Mad Men (AMC) Damian Lewis, Homeland (Showtime) COMMENTS: Once again cable dominates and new to the list Jeff Daniels is the favorite. But Damian Lewis could take it. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION Hayden Panettiere, Nashville (ABC) Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife (CBS) Maggie Smith, Downtown Abbey (Masterpiece) (PBS) Sofia Vergara, Modern Family (ABC Sarah Paulson, Game Change (mini-series) (HBO) COMMENTS: Julie Bowen snubbed again for the Globes. Hayden Panettiere is a nice addition as she has shined on Nashville. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION Max Greenfield, New Girl (Fox) Danny Huston, Magic City (Starz) Ed Harris, Game Change (mini-series) (HBO) Mandy Patinkin, Homeland (Showtime) Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family (ABC) COMMENTS: Eric Stonestreet is nominated again this year. Ty Burrell was also worthy of a nomination, but nice to see a comedy in the mix with Max Greenfield added this year.
