Tuesday night boys hoops recap: Notre Dame, Liberty, Lehighton all impressive

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER What stands out from Tuesday night's games? Liberty is good. Real good. Notre Dame still is tough to beat at home. And Lehighton is not the same 'ol woeful Lehighton that other MVC teams used to look forward to playing. Those three were among the night's biggest winners. Here's a recap of the scores: COLONIAL LEAGUE Northern Lehigh 63, Pen Argyl 37 -- Josh Eden scored 25 for Bulldogs (the 23 noted in today's paper was incorrect as was the final score). Northwestern 68, Palmerton 35 -- Jarred Binder scored 23 as Tigers won their third game, surpassing their entire win total from last year and matching their number of wins from the last two years combined. Notre Dame 50, Salisbury 41 -- Seven treys for the Crusaders, who, for the moment, look like the class of the Colonial South. Bangor 61, Catasauqua 38 -- Roughies held to just 11 points in the first half. Freshman Michael Martino had 12 for the Slaters. Southern Lehigh 36, Palisades 30 -- Tom Corsello had five treys for the Pirates and had 17 overall, but rest of the team tallied just 13. Wilson 66, Saucon Valley 56 -- Panthers are now 0-6 and probably can't wait to get to face some Colonial North teams. LEHIGH VALLEY CONFERENCE Allen 66, Central Catholic 55 -- Compliments to both schools for holding a very nice pregame ceremony to remember the victims of the Connecticut tragedy. Ashley Williams, a third-grader at Union Terrace Elementary School, gave a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Liberty 61, Easton 41 -- Right now, there's absolutely no doubt about who's the best LVC team. Looking forward to Liberty-Freedom on Friday night. Parkland 63, Northampton 25 -- This one was 46-12 at halftime. Freedom 59, Becahi 51 -- Golden Hawks probably can't wait to play teams outside their own division. Emmaus 71, Dieruff 49 -- Nate Feiertag has been putting up some big numbers for the Green Hornets, who are in first place in the LVC West. Nazareth 62, Whitehall 46 -- Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night in the LVC. Blue Eagles have been much better than advertised so far. MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE Lehighton 66, ES North 53 -- Indians going for their fifth win of season tonight against Catty. In four previous seasons combined, Lehighton won a total of five games. Stroudsburg 52, PM East 50 -- Mounties will try to slow down Liberty tonight. Pleasant Valley 50, Delaware Valley 48 -- Bears, 4-2 overall, gave up 71 points to Dieruff in a loss. In their other five games, they are allowing just 40 ppg. PM West 55, ES South 52 -- Cavaliers led by eight at halftime and despite the defeat it's clear that new coach Shawn Munford has South playing well.
