Dieruff football program is winning, just not at the varsity level

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Dieruff football coach Kyle Beller was happy that Allen was able to beat Lehighton last week to end what was a 61-game losing streak in non-Dieruff games. Now, he'd like to see the Huskies end their own losing streak -- 36 games overall, 41 in a row against teams other than Allen. It may not happen this year, but Beller, as enthusiastic is ever, is optimistic about the future and there is hope when you consider that the middle school program is 4-2 and the JVs are 3-2 (4-2 if you choose to count a forfeit win over Pocono Mountain East). "We're young, playing a lot of freshmen and sophomores, and we're beaten up right now at the varsity level, but we have gotten better the last two weeks after we played our worst game of the year against Lehighton," Beller said. "I know the final scores don't look like it, but we're battling, getting better. "We're on a learning curve. The kids are learning the system. We're all coaching them up and we're coaching the JV games and we're going down there and watching the middle school games, too. We're building. We're doing some good things, We knew it was going to be tough this year, but we've got good kids coming up and we're working hard with them." Much more on the Huskies later in the week.
