We're all getting ready for the fall season, which goes into full gear in the upcoming weeks, but the "season" never ends or begins on DVDs and streaming video. This week, we've got reviews of Castle - The Complete Fourth Season and Private Practice - The Complete Fifth Season. Let's get going! DIGITAL NEWS VEI has been very clear for the past year that Cagney & Lacey would not only be completed on DVD, but we'll even see the entire series, in one collection. The nagging question has been exactly when that will happen, but if this preorder listing for Cagney & Lacey - The Complete Series on amazon.ca is correct, it will be coming on November 13... just a little over two months from now! It is important to note that this set appears to be the general release, not the special edition which will contain the special features (including the much different first season, which often isn't even considered part of the true series). We hope to have a review of this set (if we do, it will most likely be the general release) when the time comes. Last week, a Night Court fan on Facebook asked Warner Archive about whether or not they planned to release the next season of the series (which would be season seven) on DVD. The short answer to this question was yes, but the longer and more detailed answer is certain to please fans of the series. In their own words, "Yep, already working on it. Hoping to have the whole series out within the next year or so." So not only is the next season of Night Court in the works, but it sounds as if the long term plan is to get the remainder of the series out within a year! That isn't too bad for a series which once seemed to be stalled at the first season. We'll keep you updated when we have dates to fill in for these releases. I'm hoping for at least one by the end of this year, but we'll take them when we can get them! The TV Land series Hot in Cleveland is moving ahead on DVD on November 27 with Hot in Cleveland - Season Three. The three-disc set comes at a $29.98 MSRP. And, by the way, it is worth noting that for fans north of the border, a Canadian version of this set will likely come out later by eOne, the studio handling Canadian releases for the series. November 27 will also bring some legal drama to DVD, with the release of Perry Mason - Season 8, Volume 1. This release will push the series yet another step closer to completion, with only three more volumes to go after this. By the way, we're about 100% positive that the studio listed on the amazon.com listing is incorrect... it will not be released by Comedy Central DVD. One week later, on December 4, Comedy Central... err, CBS... will be releasing Mannix - The Eighth and Final Season. As the title suggest, this will break the classic drama to a close on DVD. It isn't available to pre-order just yet. Finally, Shout! Factory provided a little surprise this week as a pre-order of Quincy, M.E. - Season 4. The six-disc set will be released on December 18, just in time for Christmas.
