The first Friday of football season provided no shortage of surprises for Lehigh Valley Conference football teams.

http://blogs.mcall.com/varsity/2012/09/week-1-lvc-standings.html FROM THE MORNING CALL The first Friday of football season provided no shortage of surprises for Lehigh Valley Conference football teams. Northampton produced the biggest Week 1 victory, upsetting Mountain Valley Conference favorite Stroudsburg 20-14. When I picked the Konkrete Kids to finish last in the 10-team LVC, I said they needed to beat some people before I could consider moving them near the top half of the league. Well, they've got my attention now. Shafnisky-SFWhitehall (31-20 loss at Spring-Ford) and Parkland (37-35 loss at Delaware Valley) both lost to tough non-league foes, but the most surprising LVC setback was Freedom's 16-14 loss at East Stroudsburg South. The Patriots had hammered the Cavaliers the past two seasons. The Week 1 results have already set us up for an intriguing Week 2. Liberty will visit Whitehall, with the loser of that game dropping to 0-2. Easton and Parkland, my top two picks for the league in the preseason, play at Parkland with the Trojans also trying to avoid an 0-2 start. Northampton's visit to Nazareth also is worth watching. A win by the Konkrete Kids would have everyone paying attention, if they aren't already following Friday's results. Below are the LVC standings and the Week 1 results, with Central Catholic the lone LVC team yet to play. The Vikings will face Allen this afternoon.
