The thing behind a blue-ribbon apple pie is really good baking apples.
That’s the secret, says Jane Siegel, of Plainfield Township. She earned a 2011 blue ribbon for her Caramel Apple Pie at the Plainfield Farmers’ Fair.
She also placed fifth out of 73 bakers in the Pennsylvania Farm Show the same year.
And who better to offer advice on making a show-stopping pie for Labor Day picnic crowds than the award-winners themselves?
