Nazareth Area High School baseball team remains unbeaten with 6-3 victory over Liberty

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Jordan Smith and Drew Hercik combined for 11 strikeouts and Will Godiska's two-run single ignited a five-run fifth inning today to lead the unbeaten Nazareth Area High School baseball team to a 6-3 victory over Liberty at William Sheridan Field in Bethlehem.

Smith and Matt Albright, of Liberty, breezed through the first four innings before Albright ran into control problems in the fifth.

Two walks and a hit batsman loaded the bases before Godiska grounded a two-run single through the right side of a drawn-in infield. Dan Shepherd delivered an RBI single in the inning.

Hercik relieved a tiring Smith in the sixth inning and had four strikeouts to pick up the save.

"(Hercik's) got good stuff," said Nazareth coach Jon Lock, whose team improved to 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the Lehigh Valley Conference. "He's got four pitches that he throws for strikes. Plus, he's a gamer."

Tom Black had a two-run double in the fifth inning for Liberty (8-4, 5-4).
