Upper Saucon Township student Naomi Li wins regional finals of Scripps spelling bee

Southern Lehigh Middle School student Naomi Li won the 25th annual regional final of the Scripps National Spelling Bee tonight at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem Township, Pa.

Li, the daughter of Chang and Hongjie, is a seventh-grader from Upper Saucon Township.

Jesse Huang, a Springhouse Middle School seventh-grader from South Whitehall Township, finished second. Aditya Rao, a Lopatcong Middle School fifth-grader from Lopatcong Township, finished third.

Li bested 60 other bee participants from Northampton and Lehigh counties in Pennsylvania and Warren and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey. Click here for the participants names, schools and photos.

The win earns Li a berth at the national spelling bee, which runs June 1-2 in Washington, D.C.
