Central Catholic makes third straight trip to state quarters

FROM THE MORNING CALL

Kerry Kinek scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the second half, helping District 11 runner-up Central Catholic pull away for a 41-28 win over District One champion Villa Maria Academy in a PIAA Class 3A second-round girls basketball game Wednesday at Council Rock South High School.

The Vikettes (25-4 overall) earned their third straight trip to the state quarterfinals with a victory that carried extra sweetness. Villa Maria Academy (22-7) ended their season a year ago with a 38-37 win in the state quarterfinals when it converted a buzzer-beating layup.

This time Central Catholic took an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter, survived a run from Villa Maria and put the game away at the foul line. It will face defending state champion Archbishop Wood in the quarterfinals.
