Just Born Inc. and its union have struck a new three-year labor agreement, the Bethlehem candy-maker announced today.
The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers' and Grain Millers' Local No. 6 ratified the tentative agreement struck Friday, the company said. It covers 337 workers at the Stefko Boulevard plant.
“The agreement ensures that Just Born will remain an active partner in the community and continue to meet the needs of its customers in a global economy,” the company said in a statement.
Just Born is privately owned and manufacturers Peeps, Hot Tamales, Mike & Ike and other candies.
Company spokeswoman Cindy Glick said details of the contract wouldn’t be disclosed. It covers production workers, the candy line, maintenance mechanics and others.
The new contract replaces a three-year agreement that expired at the end of June.
“It’s a piece of good news in that both sides came to an agreement,” Glick said today. “It allows us to continue making candy, and it’s a win-win situation for both sides.”
Local No. 6 is the only union at the Bethlehem plant.
The agreement does not cover workers at Just Born’s Philadelphia facility, where Peanut Chews are made and where a separate bargaining unit — also the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers' and Grain Millers — has a different contract.
